Vision Statement

As an IBCLC in private practice, I provide home visits for lactation support for breastfeeding/chestfeeding families. My care is client-centered, aimed at identifying my client’s goals while providing up-to-date information and recommendations on infant feeding and nutrition, and maternal nutrition during lactation. I value the individual lived experiences that my clients bring to parenting, and I always meet my clients where they are.

Commitment to Continuing Education

I am required to recertify every 5 years through IBLCE, by exam or by continuing education.

I pursue continuing education over and above these requirements. I attend a minimum of 2 online conferences, and a minimum of 2 in-person events.

When new books on lactation are published I make best efforts to read them.

I stay abreast (pun intended) of new research related to breastfeeding, lactation, and parenting.

I am a member OLCA.

Policies regarding dress and demeanor

I dress comfortably but not casually. I will remove my shoes in your home unless you instruct me otherwise.

I may bring in coffee unless you request otherwise, and I may bring in my own water. I carry breath mints with me.

I wash my hands after entering your home, and after using the bathroom or if my hands get dirty.

I wear gloves when examining your baby.

I will ask you for a clean swaddle blanket to place on my scale.

If I need you to touch my iPad for any reason, I will clean it first.

Illness

I am fully vaccinated against pertussis, rubella, measles, and mumps.
I get a flu shot every year.

If I have a fever, if I have vomiting or diarrhea, I will cancel appointments until 24 hours after my symptoms clear. I may not be able to reschedule and will make every attempt to find you a replacement IBCLC.

Visit Policies

I exclusively provide home visits within the Cleveland, OH area, and schedule visits with geographic considerations in mind.

I will endeavor to arrive for our visit within 15 minutes of our scheduled time. I am sometimes running late because of traffic and parking complexities. When possible, I will text you an update but it may not be possible if I am driving.

I treat all clients with respect and endeavor to provide equitable healthcare.

An initial home visit will last no longer than 90 minutes and may be shorter A follow up home visit will last no longer than 90 minutes and may be shorter. A prenatal session is educational only and lasts 90 minutes.

I reserve the right to decline appointment requests.

I require my intake forms to be completed prior to the visit. I reserve the right to cancel a visit if the intake forms are not completed within 4 hours of the visit.

I will weigh your baby at every visit unless you expressly decline.

Consent for Care

You will have the opportunity to sign a consent for care before the visit. I will not be able to work with you and your baby without it.

Payment & Cancellation Policies

My payment policies are posted on my website.

Communications Policy

I do not respond to texts or emails after 9pm. If an email or text arrives during the work day, I may not be able to respond until the evening or the following morning. I endeavor to respond to all client communications within 24 hours.

My phone does not ring; it goes straight to voicemail. You may leave me a voicemail and I will respond by email or secure messaging.

I respond to appointment requests as quickly as possible, and take all appointments through my online booking portal.

My website has a contact form that is not HIPAA-secure.

Documentation and Reporting

All visits are charted in detail using SOAP format.
I provide all clients with an individualized care plan.
I send reports to pediatricians unless specifically asked not to.
I may communicate with other healthcare providers as needed.
I am a mandated reporter, and it is my legal duty to notify the appropriate authorities if I have a concern about your baby’s welfare.

Privacy, Security, and HIPAA Policies

My HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices is posted on my website.

My email is encrypted and HIPAA-secure through G-Suite with Paubox encryption.

I use a HIPAA-secure practice management system called ChARM EHR to store client information.

I use HIPAA-secure online scheduling through ChARM.

Some client files are stored in G-Suite Drive, which is HIPAA-secure.

My devices are all encrypted and protected with passwords.

When you become my client, you will sign my consent which will ask you to give me permission to share your name, appointment time, and address with my husband. This is for my own safety, and I reserve the right to decline home visit appointment requests if this consent is withheld.

I use HIPAA-secure email-to-fax through Faxage??? to send care plans.

Occasionally, an appointment request or client communication will come to me through an email address that is not HIPAA-secure. I will respond to this email through a HIPAA-secure channel.

I do not accept social media connection requests from current clients.

I do not communicate with clients through social media channels.

I do not store client contact information on any of my devices.

I use HIPAA-secure G-Suite Calendar to track appointments.

I will maintain your privacy and confidentiality to the best of my ability.

Payments

Self Pay

I accept credit card payments through my practice management system (ChARM) which integrates with Blue Fin for secure payment processing. All payments are due prior to the appointment.

I provide a superbill to all my clients.

I offer a $75 discount for follow up visits.

Insurance

I do not accept any insurance.

Personal Policies

I am happy to have your other children present, and any other family members or support people with your express consent.

If you have guns in your home, please have them secured for the duration of my visit.

I do not offer any classes or support groups at this time.
